Volunteers

Volunteers are an integral part of life at our Facility, bringing the outside world in for our residents. Some volunteers are here weekly, others come occasionally and many groups come for a one-time visit. All are welcome and greatly appreciated by residents.

Sharing part of yourself is the best gift you can give a resident, and can be personally satisfying for you. Our residents are each very special and enjoy meaningful relationships and opportunities to participate in interesting activities.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Visiting one-on-one with a resident
  • Playing an instrument or singing
  • Assisting in the beauty shop
  • Gardening
  • Playing games or cards
  • Reading to a resident or group
  • Assisting with crafts & activities
  • Assisting with outings
  • Hosting a party
  • Leading religious services

To be a regular volunteer, you must be at least 18 years old and must complete an application and pass a criminal background check before receiving an assignment. Schools, Scout Troops and other organizations with persons younger than 18 are welcome with adult supervision.

Applications are available at the reception window between 8am and 6:30pm. Contact the Community Development Department for additional information at (517) 381-6132 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
